• After the operation, your son will be “öut” of anaesthesia, but may sleep for a while. He will not be allowed to have any feeds or drink anything for a few hours after surgery. He should not be in any pain immediately after surgery.
  • Some children cry and appear a bit disoriented while waking up. This is part of the process of recovery from anaesthesia – the crying does not mean that your son is in pain.
  • After a few hours, water, and then other liquids, followed by a light snack will be permitted. Gradually, normal meals may be taken.
  • Pain is managed by a combination of syrups and suppositories. The details of these treatments will be individualised.
