Most parents will opt have a surgical correction of the hypospadias. While the more severe varieties of hypospadias should definitely be corrected, there is a question sometimes, about the very minor grades. If the appearance of the penis is almost normal, and the urine stream is strong and directed forwards, then surgery may be avoided.

It should however be kept in mind that having a penis that is not absolutely normal could affect a young boy/adolescent psychologically.

Since results of correction, especially of the minor grades, are excellent, surgery at an appropriate age is recommended for most boys with hypospadias.
