• As soon as you detect that your son has a hypospadias, you should have him assessed for possible tests and to discuss issues regarding surgery.
  • Your son may need to be seen periodically to monitor his growth and progress.
  • In some situations, a course of injections may be recommended to enhance the penile size, to facilitate surgery.
  • Surgery can be done from around 6 months of age, and preferably by the age of 18 months. This period is chosen because of ease and safety  ofanaesthesia, surgery , managing a child after surgery, and for psychological reasons.
  • After a successful repair at this age, a child will have no memory of the surgical procedure, and will grow up with the perception and appearance of a normal organ, which is psychologically beneficial.
