How will my son do after the operation? How many days will he need to be admitted?
After the operation, your son will be “öut” of anaesthesia, but may sleep for a while. He will not be allowed to have any feeds or drink anything for a few hours after surgery. He should not be in any pain immediately after surgery.
Some children cry and appear a bit disoriented while waking up. This is part of the process of recovery from anaesthesia – the crying does not mean that your son is in pain.
After a few hours, water, and then other liquids, followed by a light snack will be permitted. Gradually, normal meals may be taken.
Pain is managed by a combination of syrups and suppositories. The details of these treatments will be individualised.
